Some of my friends on campus were having a discussion the other day about marijuana and the legalization of it. If it were legalized, would there be less problems related to addiction. The fact that it would be legal would of course give people easier access to it, but at the same time, people who do it becuase it's illegal wouldn't find it 'cool' anymore. Of course for the norms to change, it might take some time, so naturally, there would probably be a great rise in the use of dope before the dip comes along.
Anyway, we never really came to a conclusion in regard to this issue but it was interesting to have this discussion and hear people's thoughts about it. Feel free to contribute yours too.

Moderation is the key.
If we as humans apply moderation in our approach to everything from marijuana to religion, the world will be a much better place.
I've done marijuana, it really isn't that big a deal. Yeah sometimes you get high, sometimes you get paranoid, but for the most part, I lost interest after the first few times.
Maybe my value set was intact enough to preclude me from 'needing' to smoke a joint on a more frequent basis.
On response to your previous post, I wish to make an analogy of the difference between spiritualism (which I advocate) and religion (which most of the rest of the world advocates).
The concept of God and Spiritualism can be equated to humanity's concept of Justice. Religion therefore, can be equated to a system of laws whose purpose is to uphold justice.
We should not lose ourselves in the interpretation and application of laws (religion) to the point where we lose our focus on Justice (spiritualism).
Laws, like religion, can be misinterpreted and selectively applied by special interest groups, leading often to a perversion of Justice, or spiritualism.
